A NARROW RELIGION
NOT ENOUGH TO:
1. DO SOME GOOD THINGS
MATTHEW 19:16 – And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
2. HAVE A GOOD CONSCIENCE
ACTS 23:1- And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.
3. HEAR ONLY
JAMES 1:22-24 –But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23- For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 – For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
4. TREMBLE AT THE WORD
ACTS 24:25 – And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.
5. BE ALMOST PERSUADED
ACTS 26:28 – Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.
6. ONLY BELIEVE
JOHN 12:42-43- Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue;
43- For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
7. START, AS LOT’S WIFE
GENSIS 19:23-26 – The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.
24- Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven.
25 – And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
26- But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
LUKE 17:32 – Remember Lot’s wife.
8. BE RELIGIOUS
ACTS 17:22-23 – Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.
23 – For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an alter with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.
9. BE ZEALOUS ONLY
ROMANS 10:1-3 – Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.
2- For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge
3- For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
10. FIND NO FAULT
LUKE 23: 4 & 22 – Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.
22- And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.
11. MAKE LONG PRAYERS
MATTHEW 23:14 – Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer; therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
12. ONLY WANT ETERNAL LIFE
MATTHEW 19:16-22 –And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17- And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? There is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
18 – He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness.
19 – Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
20- The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
21- Jesus said unto him,If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
22- But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
MUST OBEY
ROMANS 6:17-18 – But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
AND CONTINUE
JAMES 1:25 – But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
